Top 10 horror games for iOS and Android - 2022

Until a few years ago, horror was not the best genre for mobile games. However, the genre has experienced something of a renaissance in recent years and is getting much better. Horror games can use elements from many other genres. On mobile, they often incorporate adventure, action, shooter (FPS) and arcade elements, a far cry from the jump scares of the Five Nights at Freddy's series. Here are the best horror games for Android and iOS.

Dead by Daylight Mobile

Dead by Daylight Mobile is a surprisingly fun game: an asymmetrical PvP game in which four players face off against each other. Solo players are monsters with some special abilities that give them an advantage over their opponents. The game is constantly updated with balance tweaks and other updates, so nothing stays the same for long. The controls and movement mechanics are also well designed. The game sometimes suffers from server issues and can be slow on older or low-end devices, so keep that in mind.

Dead Effect 2

Dead Effect 2 is a creepy sci-fi shooter in which you play as one of three characters, each of which is a different character. Your goal is to level up, find new weapons and defeat enemies. It features a large number of aliens, many dark corridors and a campaign mode with 20 hours of gameplay. The graphics are pretty good on their own. However, if you use an Nvidia Shield device, you get an extra boost. Horror games aren't usually what comes to mind when we think of horror games. However, on mobile, it's the closest thing to a horror shooter.

Distraint

Distraint is one of the newest horror games. It features hand-drawn graphics and a simple premise. The controls are very simple and should be learned quickly. The game doesn't rely on classic horror elements like scares. Instead, it tries to scare you with its storyline. In fact, the game bills itself as a psychological horror game. It's a bit short, so you'll probably be able to finish the game in a few hours. The Deluxe Edition costs a bit more than the standard version, but it contains a lot of extra elements. Distraint: Deluxe Edition can also be played for free with Google Play Pass.

Eyes

Eyes is a decent horror escape game overall. You enter a mansion, explore it and end up being chased by monsters. The game includes multiple levels to unlock, multiple game modes, offline support and global leaderboards via Google Play Games. The controls and graphics are pretty good and everything played smoothly. I didn't find it overly scary, but the atmosphere is dark and creepy, so overall it's a fun game to play. Eyes is also free through Google Play Pass, if you have it.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

The Five Nights at Freddy's series is a very popular horror game. It is based on the classic jump scares. Your job is to sit somewhere and watch out for live robots. Of course, the robots try to kill you. If you survive, you win the game. The game also features an extensive plot and storyline. The game is also quite popular on YouTube, where you can find a lot of content. In total, there are several games to play. The mechanics are different in each game. However, the central premise remains the same. Each game costs $2.99. The series has a loyal fan base, even if the games are not as big as they used to be.

Fran Bow

Fran Bow is another series of horror games. Each game is a different chapter of the story. While many games bundle the entire series into a single title, Fran Bow breaks the mold by making each chapter a separate downloadable game. It's a puzzle game where you have to self-administer a drug to go to another world. The story is excessively creepy. Overall, the series is decent. Each game in the series costs $1.96 and you won't be bothered by in-app purchases or ads.

Granny

Granny is a short and sweet indie horror game. The premise is very simple. Granny has locked you in her house and you must escape. Granny listens to everything you do, so if you cause enough of a ruckus, you have to hide from Granny to avoid being discovered. This game is by no means new, but it's well done, especially for a free game. It's ideal for horror fans on a budget, but don't expect too much as it's quite short.

Into the Dead 2

Into the Dead 2 is the latest installment in the popular horror game series. Infinite runner. The goal is to survive as long as possible. The game includes a story mode with several endings, as well as weapon and ammo perks. It also contains more game mechanics than the first installment. Therefore, it is our first recommendation. However, the first Into the Dead is still pretty good. Both horror games are freemium.

Thimbleweed Park

Thimbleweed Park is a noir thriller with horror elements; Thimbleweed Park has 80 crazy inhabitants and you have to deal with the dead bodies. Strange things happen all over town and it's your job to find the answers, with five playable characters, lots of jokes, two difficulty levels and a hint system. This one isn't necessarily scary, but it has many of the same elements as a horror game. Think of it as a Bruce Campbell movie. It's not scary, but you still see it around Halloween, and the same goes for Thimbleweed Park, which you can play for free through Google Play Pass.

Slayaway Camp and Friday the 13th

Slayaway Camp and Friday the 13th are two horror, puzzle and gore games from Blue Wizard Digital. The two games have very similar graphics and controls. You solve puzzles, kill things and see a lot of blood. However, you have to turn on the gore mode - Slayaway Camp has 140 levels, while Friday the 13th has over 100. That's more than enough to keep you going for a while. These are arguably the best mobile horror games ever made, and Slayaway Camp is priced at $2.99. Friday the 13th can be downloaded for free, with in-app purchases of up to $9.99.

The developer has also released a third game. It's called Slashy Camp and is an endless runner similar to games like Crossy Road, but with the horror and gloating you've come to expect from this developer. It's not as horror-centric as some of the other games, but it's still a pretty decent game.
